Today in class we learnt exactly what copyright is all about. Did you know there are certain rules to copyright? They are:
But there are also exceptions for copyright this is called fair use. The definition of fair use is: the ability to use a small amount of copyrighted work without permission, but only in certain ways. The exceptions include using work for educational purposes, research, news reporting, commentary, and for parody. So we know about copyright: a law that protects ownership of and control over the work someone creates, requiring other people to the creator's permission before they copy, share, or perform that work; so then what about Public Domain? Public Domain is creative work that is not protected by copyright and therefore free for one to use however one wants. These are the basics of copyright.
Creative commons is a website that allows creators to get licenses to share their work. This tells other people around the world what they can and cannot do with the creators work. But what is most noteworthy about this is that with every creative commons license there must be attribution. In order to copy, share, and/or perform others must give credit to the creator. With all of this information we will now be able to get a creative commons license in class tomorrow for a photo we have taken. No part of today's class was confusing to me, and I found it very interesting to learn about the copyright laws people have to follow. Today in class we also used Edpuzzle, this is a site that allows teachers to let students view videos and answer questions as they watch. I have used this in another class before so it was nothing new to me. But Prezi however was a bit new to me. Back in 7th grade I had a teacher who showed us a presentation on it at the beginning of the year, but we never used it to make a presentation. Hopefully in the future I will be able to learn more about how to use Prezi. Overall, this information will help me in the future when I go to use other people's work in my work/presentations. It will also help me to understand the different licenses there are under the creative commons. Maybe one day I'll have another blog for photography and then I will have to get licenses for my work.
