Imagine you are a college admissions officer, who do you choose to accept into your college? This is exactly what we did today. In class we compared two very eligible candidates and had to choose which one to accept. Markus Sanders, is a kind and sensitive person but, he also "needs to get a life and care more about his future." Tommy Williams on the other hand, created a support group for special needs students and care about his family but, he had two car accidents in one year and took it as a joke. We analyzed, the two candidates and choose which one had the better digital footprint. After deep thought, I choose to accept Tommy Williams. I choose him because he had better qualities a college would want than Markus Sanders. He founded an amazing group for special needs students, he is a leader, and he shows that he is very involved with his family. So overall, in class today we were able to get a feel for what a good digital footprint should look like.
I found it interesting how, you may post something online in one tone but, someone else may interpret in a completely different way than you wanted because they read it in a different tone. We learned that you really have to be careful saying something that can be taken in many different ways because that could be the tipping point of if you get into a college/get the job. For example, Tommy Williams posted about his car accident but, from a "college admission officer's point of view" it seemed like he thought is was a joke and kind of put off the vibe that he was not responsible.
I thought that this activity was eye opening but, I would have liked to see more in depth about Markus and Tommy because I felt like the clarity of who they really were was a bit confusing. Also, the messages their friends left on there pages was one sided. I wished there was more clarity behind what exactly they were talking about. Overall, I think if this was a real life decision that had to made, you would be able to access the missing information I could not so, it is not a huge problem since once again this was a stimulation activity we did in class. In the future I feel that this information will be great to hold onto. In the present/future I can start to make my digital footprint look exactly how I would want it to look like with this information. I can also watch my tone of voice to make sure there is minimum to no misinterpretations of what I am try to say. Overall, this was a very educational class! Comments are closed.
