Today in class we learned about our digital footprint and how to be a good digital citizen. First we went over to a website called Symbaloo and completed multiple activities on there. To start we wrote the definitions of a digital citizenship and a digital footprint. The definitions were: Digital Citizenship- navigating the digital world safely, responsibly, and ethically Digital Footprint- All of the information about a person that can be found online After that we watched a short video on you digital footprint. This basically say that everything that you put online can be searched, copied, and shared. Then, we watched another short video about how to be a good citizen online and how colleges can find you online as well as others. This video was mostly about Facebook but, it could be applied to other social media platforms. Finally, we read two articles about how to be a good digital citizen/how colleges and jobs look at your social media. In this I learned many things. The most interesting thing I learned through doing this activity is that colleges not only look at your negatives, but also your positives. If you post about community service or leadership, when colleges or jobs go to look at your profiles they will see positive and good things about you that they may want to have. This in chance, can help you choose how you want to leave a digital footprint online. This makes it vital for me to know, so I can better prepare for my future.
There was not much I found difficult in doing because it was a easy task to complete. Although, if I do have to label one thing to be the most difficult to understand it would have to be reading some of the articles. The way they worded some of the ideas were a bit hard to comprehend at first. Plus with the ad's on every page in the middle of a reading it was difficult to read at times. Other than that nothing was difficult. In the future what I have learned can be extremely vital to have at the back of my head. As I am still in high school, I can add to my social media to make it more appealing to colleges and future jobs I may apply to. This is important to know now because I will affect my future no matter what since we are now in a digital age. So how what does your digital footprint look like? Comments are closed.
